The Luna Fire, located two miles northeast of Chacon on the Camino Real Ranger District, Carson National Forest is now estimated at 9,000 acres and 0% contained. The fire continues to exhibit active fire behavior as it moves west toward Cerro Vista Peak. There are no evacuation orders in place, but some residents in the Luna Canyon area have left voluntarily. Values at risk include the community of Chacon, private lands, forest service campgrounds, natural and cultural resources, and area watersheds. Approximately 90 personnel are working to safely evaluate and secure containment lines. Additional resources are en route.

Smoke will continue to impact the surrounding area. Individuals who are sensitive to wildfire smoke should take precautions and use the New Mexico Department of Health 5-3-1 Visibility Method to determine if it's safe to be outside.
