We have known for a long time that broadband Internet is vital to bringing economic development and job creation, distance learning, and tele-health to all New Mexicans. In the midst of the current pandemic, we have seen the ultra-importance of having broadband Internet in every home and business in New Mexico. I hope you will join me for a community town hall meeting with AARP New Mexico, where I will reveal my legislative package to help resolve this challenge facing New Mexico.

We have done a lot to resolve this issue, but we have a long way to go. I will be reviewing 6 pieces of legislation that I will be introducing in the legislative session starting January 19.

Creation of the New Mexico Office of Broadband Access and Expansion.Placement of Sacred Wind Communications in the NM Rural Telecommunications Act.Clarification of reforms to my 2017 NM Telecommunications Act.Allowing utilities to share their easements (Right of Way) and other facilities to enable Broadband transmission.Public Private Partnerships for Broadband projects.Creation of a NM Broadband Fund (approximately $.5 – $1.3B).

Please register here to attend and learn more. I hope you will help me accomplish this legislation by calling your legislators and asking then to support the Senator Michael Padilla New Mexico Broadband for All Package.

I want to thank AARP New Mexico for hosting this Town Hall meeting.

In Your Service,

Senator Michael Padilla
