Helping build stronger, safer communities through mental and behavioral wellness programs

(Albuquerque, N.M.) – Today, the PNM Resources Foundation announced 20 New Mexico nonprofits will share a total of $215,000 in grant funding for community programs that support mental health or safety education for youth. Funding ranged from $10,000 to $15,000 for each selected nonprofit to help combat troubling statistics such as New Mexico being 6th in the nation for teen suicide.

“All of the recipients of our summer 2021 grant are focused on improving community safety, a mission that is even more urgent as pandemic recovery continues,” said Laurie Roach, PNM Resources Foundation director. “We are acutely aware that many people are still experiencing great difficulty, especially worrisome is the increasing number of youth who are struggling every day. It is our honor to provide support to these worthy nonprofits that are providing a lifeline to so many in need.”

The 2021 Community Safety grant recipients are:

  7. Children’s Grief Center for New Mexico (Albuquerque)
  8. Domestic Violence Resource Center (Albuquerque)
  9. El Refugio, Inc. (Silver City)
  10. Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families, Inc. (Santa Fe)
  11. Explora Science Center & Children’s Museum of Albuquerque (Albuquerque)
  12. First Robotics New Mexico, Inc. (Tularosa)
  13. Flickinger Center For Performing Arts (Alamogordo)
  14. Future Focused Education (Albuquerque)
  15. Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Inc. (Albuquerque)
  16. National Dance Institute of New Mexico (Statewide)
