(Albuquerque, N.M.) –  Today, the PNM Resources Foundation announced it collectively awarded $110,000 to eight local nonprofits for their work to increase access to affordable housing in New Mexico. Each nonprofit grant recipient has programs making an impact throughout the state and shares the PNM Resources Foundation vision of moving New Mexico forward together.

Affordable housing plays a significant role in economic vitality, one of the primary focus areas for the PNM Resources Foundation. Access to affordable housing improves quality of life by leading to better health, adequate jobs, financial stability, security, and population diversity. The effects of affordable housing on residents are profound and capable of transforming communities.

Across the nation, including in New Mexico, a growing number of households are forced to choose between making housing payments versus other necessities like food, transportation, and health care. Reduced incomes during the global pandemic and increased housing prices have intensified this problem.

“The PNM Resources Foundation recognizes the importance of affordable housing and the impact it has on our entire community,” said Lisa Goodman, PNM Resources Foundation board president. “This is the second year that we have funded programs specifically focused on this critical issue. We have some incredible local organizations working to provide increased access to affordable housing for New Mexicans and we are proud to support their efforts through this year’s grant funding.”

PNM Resources Foundation collectively awarded the following eight nonprofits $110,000 in grants to help them further their important mission of increasing access to affordable housing in New Mexico:

  1. Barrett Foundation Housing Program
  2. Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity
  3. Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity
  4. Tre Rios Habitat for Humanity
  5. Homewise, Inc.
  6. United South Broadway Corporation
  7. Santa Fe Housing Action Coalition
  8. United Way of Central NM

PNM takes the shared responsibility of increasing access to affordable housing to New Mexicans a step further through employee community volunteerism, corporate sponsorships, and board service with nonprofits throughout the state. Habitat for Humanity, for example, knows that a safe, decent, affordable home is fundamental to a family forging a path out of poverty.

The company’s commitment to moving the state forward is more than providing electricity. The PNM Resources Foundation believes investing in the state’s communities helps New Mexico’s future shine brighter. The Foundation believes supporting nonprofits that make an impact in key areas will begin to address critical challenges and move the state in the right direction.

Since 1983, the PNM Resources Foundation has helped improve the quality of life in New Mexico by supporting nonprofit organizations. The PNM Resources Foundation is a separate, nonprofit, tax exempt corporation governed by a board of trustees comprised of PNM Resources employees. No customer funds are part of the PNM Resources Foundation endowment. Eligible nonprofits must hold a 501(c)3 status from the IRS and be within the areas that PNM serves.
