More Than Two Dozen GOP Governors Send Letter Today to President Biden to Deal With Ongoing Border Catastrophe

Albuquerque, September 20—The Republican Party of New Mexico exhorts Gov. Lujan Grisham to take action to stop the crisis at the southern border. She could join other governors to demand an end to this calamity.

Today 26 governors sent this letter to President Biden to meet with them to discuss how to end the border disaster. The governors of Arizona and Texas are among those who signed the letter. Both have sent National Guard troops to the border to help in the crisis.

New Mexico is facing the same onslaught as both those states.

The nation is reacting in alarm to the hundreds of thousands of people crowding the southern border then crossing into this country with not so much as a wave to the Customs and Border Patrol officials.

There is no proper vetting, no thorough health checks, no guaranteed vaccinations, no proper identification checks, no masks and no proper visas. The masses are pouring into this country with careless disregard for the law.

Even the President is giving a backhanded acknowledgement to his administration's bungling--it's now in the process of flying out 12,000 Haitians back home, many of whom remain camped around a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

Today's letter from the governors informed the President about the serious impact the border situation is having on our nation. The Governors spoke about how the border policies have led to an "international humanitarian crisis, spurred a spike in international criminal activity, and opened the floodgates to human traffickers and drug smugglers endangering public health and safety in our states."

Nearly 10,000 people arrested crossing the border have prior criminal convictions. Cartels and traffickers are now making $14 million a day moving people illegally across the border. In August alone, border officials arrested more than 200,000 illegal immigrants.

Still, Gov. Lujan Grisham refuses to even acknowledge the problem. She hasn't joined with neighboring governors to deploy National Guard troops to the border, even as crime escalates as a result of the border problem. Local sheriffs say more and more dangerous drugs, like fentanyl, are pouring into New Mexico.

"It's disheartening and shocking that our governor, whose sworn duty is to protect New Mexicans, has done nothing to tackle this ongoing crisis. Lujan Grisham is derelict in her duty, has failed her constituents, and New Mexico's governor must make this crisis a priority," said Amy Barela, Republican Party of New Mexico CD-2 Vice Chair.

"Border arrests are up almost 500% compared to last year. People are flooding our nation without proper health or criminal background checks. This is a serious problem for our New Mexico communities," said Republican Party of New Mexico Secretary Mari Trujillo Spinelli.

The Republican Governors Association is also speaking out:

"While Lujan Grisham believes there are not significant numbers of migrants or refugees at the New Mexico border, the facts prove otherwise," said Republican Governors Association spokesman Will Reinert. "Republican governors continue to step up to secure the border and keep their citizens safe, while Democratic Governors Association Chair Lujan Grisham is all too happy to turn a blind eye to the crisis in her backyard for Biden's political gain."
