Albuquerque, October 15—The Republican Party of New Mexico supports State Treasurer Tim Eichenberg who agrees that Gov. Lujan Grisham has overstepped her authority regarding spending of more than $1 billion in federal relief.

Eichenberg has sided with state Senate Republican Leader Greg Baca and Democratic Senator Jacob Candelaria, both of whom have filed suit in the NM Supreme Court to stop such spending.

Eichenberg concurs with the lawmakers that it is the legislature's role to appropriate any funds. He has also gone to the High Court to make the case.

The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce:

"I am pleased that our State Treasurer understands that this illegal spending of federal money by Gov. Lujan Grisham is not a partisan issue but a matter of following the law and adhering to the New Mexico Constitution. It is the role of the legislature to decide how and when to disperse funds. The Governor has violated the Constitution and has bypassed the legislature. It's not only a violation but an insult to the role and the integrity of state lawmakers. We have checks and balances in government for a reason. The Governor must be called out for exceeding her authority and acting like a dictator."
