Innovative business type allows more New Mexicans access to industry

SANTA FE—The Cannabis Control Division of the Regulation and Licensing Department on Thursday announced the division is now accepting license applications for Integrated Microbusinesses, an innovative business category that allows a small business to produce, manufacture and sell cannabis.

“Small businesses are the heart of New Mexico’s economy,” said Cannabis Control Division Director Kristen Thomson. “By creating a streamlined licensing process that allows microbusinesses to succeed in every sector in the cannabis industry, the state is continuing its commitment to standing up an industry that reflects New Mexico values.”

Prospective integrated cannabis micro business operators can access the licensing application system online, any time.

The CCD recently launched its online application system by adding to cannabis producer, manufacturer, retail, vertically integrated, and cannabis micro producer license applications.

Applications for integrated cannabis microbusiness license types can now be started and submitted online.

“The Cannabis Control Division is dedicated to easing the process for microbusiness licensees,” Thomson said. “After gathering feedback from new small business owners, we are instituting this new licensing process to help cannabis entrepreneurs navigate the licensing system to fully participate in the economic opportunities this industry is creating.”

Under the Cannabis Regulation Act, which passed earlier this year and the governor signed into law, adult-use cannabis sales are set to start in New Mexico by April 1, 2022. Rules for various industry sectors must be finalized by January 1, 2022.
