After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation is moving their popular volleyball-based fundraiser to grass from mud in their inaugural “Not-So-Muddy Grass Volleyball Tournament” scheduled for July 30 at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque.

The idea for a grass volleyball tournament came about when the traditional site of the Mudd Volleyball Tournament was unavailable. The “Not-So-Muddy” tournament will take place on the large grassy field of Balloon Fiesta Park where forty courts will be set up.

The tournament is 6-on-6 Round Robin in structure with five games per team guaranteed. Registration is $350 per team; with a team maximum of eight players (co-ed and 18+ years old). Deadline for registration is July 22, 2022. Pre-registration is required and can be accessed at Hold My Ticket or through the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation website at carrietingleyhospitalfoundation.org.

Tournament prizes include: $1,750 + a free 2023 tournament registration for first place, $1,400 + a free 2023 tournament registration for second place, and an Isotopes Suite for 18 (courtesy of HB Construction) for third place.

The theme of this year’s tournament is “Disco or Dive” – with teams and attendees suggested to dress up in disco-themed gear. A DJ will be on hand playing disco favorites throughout the day. This is an all- ages event. Families, friends, and volleyball lovers are encouraged to attend with free admission to the tournament. Attendees may bring in pop-up canopies, chairs, coolers, etc. Bringing in alcohol is not permitted but locally crafted beer and spirits – along with food trucks – will be available on-site. Pets are not allowed.

Onsite team check-in begins at 8 am on June 30; with tournament play starting at 9 am.

The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation is a statewide organization that serves the Carrie Tingley Hospital and its more than 18,000 patients throughout New Mexico. Carrie Tingley patients are children and teens who live with permanent disabilities that include musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and neurological disorders.
