HSD customers will receive a turquoise envelope with vital benefit renewal information.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) announced today that they are launching a statewide multilingual media campaign to alert HSD customers receiving Medicaid benefits that important benefit eligibility re-determinations will resume in April 2023.

On March 31, 2023, the federal government is ending the Medicaid continuous coverage flexibility established during the COVID-19 pandemic. The end of this flexibility means all 986,719 New Mexicans covered by Medicaid will have to renew their coverage when they are notified by the department. This week, HSD began sending renewal packets in a turquoise envelope to those customers whose renewal applications are due in April. The department has 12 months to complete all Medicaid renewals.

HSD customers must respond to those notices immediately, otherwise they risk losing benefits. When they are due to renew, HSD customers have several options to submit their renewal application:

“It is essential that Medicaid customers look for the turquoise envelope from our department regarding the renewal application and respond accordingly,” said Kari Armijo, acting cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department.  “We are making every effort to make sure that HSD customers renew their benefits to continue receiving Medicaid coverage if eligible or help them stay connected to healthcare coverage if they no longer qualify for Medicaid.”

HSD has launched “Renew NM,” a statewide media campaign to provide HSD customers the necessary tools to know how and when to renew their benefits. HSD is asking community organizations to become a Renew NM partner by utilizing the Renew NM partner toolkit to help New Mexicans stay covered.

The multi-lingual Renew NM campaign includes television, radio, billboard, print, transit, online, direct mail and text outreach to Medicaid and SNAP customers. Renew NM messaging will notify customers to look for a turquoise envelope when it is time for them to renew and submit their applications to determine coverage and benefit eligibility.
