Federal Grants Bureau set to host statewide regional trainings beginning on May 31

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) announces a series of regional, in-person workshops designed to assist local, state, and tribal governments in obtaining and managing federal grants. The workshops are part of DFA's Federal Grants Bureau's (FGB) efforts to help local entities build the capacity to acquire federal funds and develop the expertise to manage them successfully. 

"New Mexico communities have the opportunity to expand their rightful portion of federal grants, but acquiring federal funding requires familiarity, expertise, and capability, which is why we are hitting the road and visiting communities throughout the state," said DFA Cabinet Secretary Wayne Propst.

"The federal grant world can feel like a forest to navigate, so our mission is to back local entities with the knowledge and capacity to go after federal grants that can make a substantial impact on their communities," said Patrick Schaefer, DFA's General Counsel and Director of FGB. "The primary objective of these events is to empower communities to optimize their grant possibilities and align them with the specific requirements of each community."

The regional workshops are part of DFA's more extensive grant education and capacity-building programs for local entities. DFA recently announced $2 million for the 2023 New Mexico Capacity Building Grants for council of governments and local and tribal governments to secure grant professionals. Other programs include purchasing 50 federal grant management training spots with the National Grant Management Association.
