Betty O. Gomez, 68, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 17, 2020 surrounded by her family in Bayard, NM.  Betty was born on May 9, 1952 to Felipe V. and Ramona R. Ortiz in Santa Rita, NM. She married her beloved husband Robert Gomez in 1974. Betty was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, Nina, and friend. She was amazing, caring, and loving person, who’s eyes were of life.  he never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone who needed her. When Betty was around, there was never a dull moment. Everyone who met and knew her remembers all the laughs she would bring.  Whether it be her stories or her posts on Facebook, Betty could bring the laughter out of anyone she talked to. 

She enjoyed talking to everyone she met. Betty loved to listen and sing along to her music on the radio. She especially loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons, Michael and Jayden. One of her favorite pastimes was watching her novelas on TV.

She is survived by daughter Tanya Ortiz, her grandchildren, Michael and Jayden Gonzales; her mother and father, Felipe and Ramona Ortiz; five brothers, Daniel Ortiz and wife Rosie of Tucson, AZ; Felipe Ortiz Jr and wife Tina of Hollister, CA; Charlie Ortiz of Mimbres; Johnny Ortiz and wife Virginia of Anaheim, CA; Eloy Ortiz of Bayard; and sister, Barbara Rodriguez of Tucson, AZ; also numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Gomez. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22 from 9-10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary being recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez to commence at 10am. The funeral liturgy will follow at 10:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Hanover cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her husband.  Pallbearers will be Eloy Ortiz Jr., Charlie Ortiz, Felipe Ortiz Jr., Bobby Lucero, Michael Paul Gonzales, and Daniel Ortiz.
