tapscott 02Jack Tapscott was born in Carrizozo, NM on January 23, 1931 and peacefully entered into eternal rest at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Fort Bayard, NM on Saturday July 18, 2020. He was raised by his Granny Eva Hurley and his Uncle Ben Hurley. Jack lived a long and happy life alongside his wife of 67 years, Wilma. Jack was proceeded in death by his son Teddy Tapscott, one great-granddaughter Chantal Tapscott and many beloved family members and friends. 

He is survived by his wife Wilma Tapscott of Santa Clara, NM., one daughter Terry Tapscott of Santa Clara, NM, one daughter-in-law Rhonda Tapscott of Silver City, NM., four grandchildren Waynette Tapscott, Justin Tapscott (Sophia), Niki Grimes (Derek) and Joshua Tapscott, five great-grandchildren, Justin Tapscott Jr., Amanda Clinton, Ondie Tapscott, Tucker Grimes, Jackson Grimes and one great-great-grandson Bryson Abeyta. Jack is also survived by countless loved ones including brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. 

Jack served in the United States Airforce during the Korean War before settling down, marrying the love of his life and raising his family in Grant County. He was a shovel mechanic for Kennecott on “the bull gang” for 29 years. After retiring in 1986 he enjoyed time with his family and traveling in his RV with his wife. He and Wilma traveled and enjoyed watching spring training in Arizona and camping. Jack enjoyed watching and playing baseball, music, two-steppin’ with Wilma, playing cards and being surrounded by the people he loved. Jack never met anyone who was not a friend.

The Tapscott family would like to thank Sarah at the Silver City Veterans Clinic, Chris McIntosh at Gila Regional Medical Center as well as the doctors, nurses and entire staff at Fort Bayard Medical Center that provided care and compassion for Jack. Services will be announced at a later date due to current attendance restrictions. 

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Association, local Veterans or Fort Bayard Medical Center.  Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.  Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory “Trusted care for the ones you love” ~ 575-537-0777.  To send condolences, visit www.terrazasfuneralchapel.com.
