Mary Shannon Hensley, 90, was taken to God's eternal peace on July 29, 2021, having spent her final years under the loving care of the staff of Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, Kansas. Hensley was born and raised in Dana, West Virginia, with her three siblings by her parents Charles Wesley and Ellen Haggerty Shannon. The real adventures of her life began with her marriage to Ralph Hensley on October 24,1947. Accomplishments during their union of 69 years include graduations from colleges and seminary; pastoring at churches in Ohio, Kentucky, New Mexico, and Kansas; establishing the Southwest Christian Center at Buckhorn, NM.; and raising 4 children. The Hensley family moved to Silver City in 1961. Mrs. Hensley graduated with honors from WNMU in 1965 and taught elementary school for the next 20 years. Mrs. Hensley dedicated the remainder of her life to serving her Lord Jesus Christ and helping others, including teaching many community-wide Bible studies. Mrs. Hensley was preceded in death by her loving husband Rev. Ralph Hensley (8/07/16).
Surviving family include children and spouses: Michael and Diana Hensley, Chris and Len Bunts, Michelle and Bob Detterick, and Kate and David Dellinger; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her love for God will continue to impact this world through the lives of all people who knew her. A Celebration of the Life of Mary Shannon Hensley officiated by Rev. David Goble will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 2 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cliff NM. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be donated to the Psalm 121 walking path and meditation benches of the Southwest Christian Center, P O Box 1598, Silver City NM 88062.
