mikegomezMike P. Gomez, 81, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born January 28, 1940 in Hurley, NM to Andres D. Gomez and Cyrilda Placencio Gomez.

Mr. Gomez proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 

Mike was remembered by many as a loving out-going man. He loved to joke and had an infectious laugh. He was an active member of the Fire Department of Central. Many knew him as “The Chief”. He wore his badge with honor and pride.

He was a bouncer at the Brown Derby.  Loving his work, there he loved to dance with all the ladies. Loving his music, he would make sure to listen to “Bill Acosta”. He made sure his beloved mother listened as well. 

He loved his garden, which he planted radishes, squash, and green beans. He made sure he savored the first ones.  As years passed, he was placed in Ft. Bayard. He made many more friends there. He wanted to be someone important there. He made many crafts and worked at the gift store. While visiting family members, he made sure he would take home his care package, which consisted of tortillas, and red chile. During the holidays he looked forward for the cookies and all the sweets there was, ham, tamales, turkey, and sweet yams were his second favorite items.

When the day was coming to an end, he wanted to be home at Fort Bayard by 5pm.  Now, he is at home.

He is survived by one daughter, Andrea Olivas of Silver City; two sisters, Petra (Robert) Ramirez of Santa Clara; Teresa G. (Manuel) Garcia of Bayard; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Rosario P. Gomez, Enrique P. Gomez, and Andres P. Gomez; three sisters, Monica G. Gomez, Corrine G. Morales, and Virginia G. Hernandez. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 6 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels and with prayer vigil and holy rosary being recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez to commence at 6pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 7 at 10am at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Casmir Anozie officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Santa Clara cemetery. Pallbearers are Andres Gomez IV, Andres Gomez V, Alejandro Gomez, Antonio Gomez, Daniel Gomez, Lalo Ramirez, Joseph Gomez, and Manny Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard, Johnny, and Jerry Rivera, Mike Gomez, Pete Salas Jr., Gibby Alvarado, Richard and Bobby Morales, Fernando and Anthony Gomez, Joe Garcia, Daniel Gomez, Andy Gomez and Edward Dominguez.
