Peggy Joan Wright, long time resident of Pinos Altos, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 23.

Peggy was born in Forbes, New South Wales, Australia, on November 5, 1926 to Arthur Spittles and Lillian Booth Spittles.  She was the 5th of 8 children. She was raised in Forbes then moved to Syndey. In 1960 she and her husband, Ralph Wright and young family immigrated to the U.S., landing in Port Everglades, FL. After a grueling bus ride to El Paso, they lived in Arenas Valley at a time when there were only 3 homes on Kirkland Rd, shortly after they settled in Pinos Altos.

Peggy had a varied work experience, she worked in a crystal factory polishing crystal, clerk, cashier, and waitress. She worked at several places in this area that no longer exist; Surplus City. Tyrone Mercantile, Ranch Club, Pinos Altos Mercantile. After retirement she joined the Garden Club and worked in the store. She was a people person and loved to meet new people and visit.

She loved to knit and was known for her beautiful blankets and sweaters. She loved to garden, her garden was always beautiful especially when her tulips and daffodils were in full bloom. She was still mowing and taking care of her yard into her 90’s. A good cup of tea and listening to her vast collection of vinyl records was always a treat.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Peggy is survived by her 4 children, Margaret (Michael) Hughes, Jennifer (Jerry) Huff, Martin (Vicky)Wright, and Elizabeth Wright. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Tisha (Keith) Babineaux, Shawn (Ashley) Huff, Wendy Huff, and Tiffany Huff Madara, 7 great grandchildren, Kaleigh (Shane) Kelly, Taylor (Kelsie) Huff, Tyler Huff, Katelynn (Dom) Forrer, Ashley (Garrett)Horvath, Darrien (Matt) Marinsek, and Nola Madara. Also, 5 great -great grandchildren, Eryn, Kynlee, Lyla, Luke, and Owen. She is survived by one brother, Jack Spittles and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wright last December 28; 6 siblings and parents.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, October 11 at 9:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor Randy Teague officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Pallbearers are Shawn Huff, Taylor Huff, Tyler Huff and Erik Weist.
