Karen Elizabeth Marshall, 75, a resident of Hurley, NM entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM. She was born April 15, 1946 in Santa Fe, NM to Melvin Oscar Short and Annie E. Hammond Short.

Karen was a very special lady to all that had the good fortune to meet her. She never met a stranger and just loved all people.  She made an impact at every job she held from working at Maxwell House, to Dr. Anderson’s dental office, to Presbyterian in Albuquerque where she met the love of her life, Everett Marshall. While Everett was born and raised in Grant County, Karen quickly got to know more people and remember special things about each person. She was a great wife, mother, sister and grandmother to so many that have great memories. Life wasn’t always easy as she dealt with major medical issues for last 50 years, but one would never know from the never fading smile on her face. She held a special place in her heart for her grandson Clay and great-grandson Mathew who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving husband, Everett Marshall of the family home; two sons, John C. Marshall of Silver City; James Marshall and wife Mary of Silver City; three step-daughters, Carrie, Nena, and Holly; she was proud to have dozens call her grandma and great-grandma; one brother, Jeff VanBuskirk and wife Misty of Hobbs, NM; one sister, Billie Friedland and husband David; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two special parents, Bill and Virginia VanBuskirk; one brother, Johnny VanBuskirk and one sister, Barbara; she held a special place in her heart for her grandson Clay and great-grandson Mathew who also preceded her in death.
