josealtamiranoJose “Joe” Altamirano, 59, of Silver City passed away at his residence on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Joe was born on February 24, 1962 to Antonio and Manuela Altamirano in Silver City, NM.

Joe loved his family and would regularly call and check in on how everyone was doing, no matter how long it had been since he last saw you. His phone calls were always filled with jokes, laughs and special nicknames he had for his sisters and brothers. Joe had a unique way of uplifting you with his words. One of his favorite past times was enjoying a few beers with his many friends. Joe never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone, often times making new friends along the way. He also loved listening to music and playing his harmonica and guitar.

Joe could often be found enjoying a bicycle ride around town, while running errands or picking up groceries. He would never turn down a Sonic cheeseburger and was a great cook at home. Joe served in the Army National Guard for 3 years and was honorably discharged. Of all of Joe’s attributes, his generosity was his greatest gift. No matter how little he had, he was always willing to give to others.

Joe is survived by his siblings, Mary Carreon (Tony) of Bayard; Margie Cooper of Albuquerque; Lino Altamirano (Mary) of Silver City; and Tony Altamirano Jr. (Belinda0 of Gilbert, AZ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Manuela Altamirano, his brother, Ray Altamirano, and his nephew Jacob Altamirano.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, December 9 at 10 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Oliver Obele officiating. Concluding service and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews and close friends and relatives. Joe will be greatly missed by all of his family and closest friends; but we know he is resting peacefully alongside his beloved mother “Nellie” and brother Ray.
