Mr. James J. Palacios, 69, of Silver City, NM, passed away on May 18, 2022, after complications with diabetes.

James J. Palacios was born on July 25, 1952, to Natalia and Luis Palacios of Silver City, NM. After James graduated from Silver High School in 1971. He studied at WNMU for a year, he was part of the football team. James also worked as a miner for a brief time, Sheriff Deputy and later became the Grant County Sheriff.  

James and his wife Vicky founded La Casita Restaurant which is now known as the legendary Mi Casita restaurant.

James loved watching sports, music, singing karaoke, and dancing. He also loved coaching and spending time with his grandkids. 

In 1970, James met the love of his life, Victoria Rivas. They were married for 32 years, Vicky entered eternal rest after her battle with cancer in 2003. James is now resting in peace with his best friend and love of his life.  

James is survived by his two sons, James R. Palacios (Yvette) of Sahuarita, AZ and Jose Luis Palacios (Alicia) of Silver City, NM; his one daughter, Clarissa Ann Palacios; his one brother Paul Palacios; his five sisters, Yvonne Palacios, Berna Palacios, Sylvia Palacios, Dolores “Dodie” Palacios and Patsy Mays (James); his ten grandchildren Jay, Kayla, Kieri, Victoria, Julian, J’Lynn, Javier, J’Cee, Gino and Sir; his two great grandchildren, Sebastian and Jaylah. James is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 32 years and his sister Debra Palacios.  

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26 at 5:00pm-6:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the Rosary to commence at 6:00pm with Deacon Art Gutierrez reciting. The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 27 at 9:30am at St. Francis Newman Center with Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem officiating. Concluding service and cremation, an inurnment burial will take place at St. Vincent’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Paul Palacios, Frank Silva, Ray Teran, David Manzano, Julian Palacio, Chon Manzano, Javier Palacios. Honorary Pallbearers are Arnold Chavez, Paul Palacios Jr. Joseph Palacios, Rudy Flores, Ricardo Silva.
