Benjamin R. “Benny” Gonzales, 82, of Silver City passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Visitation for Benjamin will take place at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City, New Mexico. A Celebration of Benjamin’s Life will be held at eleven o’clock. Officiating is Pastor Clyde Woods. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City, New Mexico.
Honorary Pallbearers are Eli Ortiz, Tyler Ortiz, Don Boger, Tony Gonzales, Robert Gonzales, Bennie Montoya, Robert Johnson, and Tommy Alcorta.
Benjamin was born on October 19, 1939 to Rosalio and Theodora Gonzales in Ruth, Nevada.
Before retiring, Benjamin was employed at Chino Mines in Santa Rita, New Mexico, where he worked as a mechanic for 30 years. He had been active in Copper Little League of Bayard during the ‘70’s, eventually serving as President and establishing the Girls’ Softball program.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalio and Theodora Gonzales, seven brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda Gonzales; daughter, Patty Ortiz and her sons, Eli and Tyler Ortiz; son, Steve Gonzales (Cecilia) and their daughters, Marcella, Gabriella, and Ariella Gonzales; son, Benny Ray Gonzales and his children, Paul Gonzales, Valerie Wacondo (Vern), Jennifer Powell (Tyson), and Christina Gonzales; step-son, Tommy Alcorta; sister, Virginia Kitchens (Bill); sister-in-law, Gloria Montoya (Bennie); four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
