SILVER CITY, N.M. – Western New Mexico's Zane Gibson announces his first signing class as the newly appointed Head Men's Basketball Coach. Three players will join the squad for the 2020-2021 season, hailing from Texas, Colorado and New Mexico.

"I am extremely pleased to announce the signings of Keyshawn, Robert and Joziah. This first recruiting class is extremely important to get it right not only as basketball players but as people. These young men will lay the foundation for our program and culture that we are building in Silver City. We still have a few pieces to add to this class to help our returners but these three young men have gotten us off to an outstanding start!" said Coach Gibson.

"They represent what we will be at Western New Mexico. We will be a hard-playing, tough, unselfish basketball team. We will represent our university in the community with great pride and we will attack the classroom with the same passion that we attack the basketball court with. I can't wait to get these three young men to campus this fall!"

Keyshawn Maltbia

COACH GIBSON ON KEYSHAWN: "Keyshawn has all the tools to have a tremendous career at Western New Mexico. He is what I would term as a "three-level scorer". Keyshawn has a big time shot, he can lift up from well behind the 3pt. line. He also has great balance on his midrange jump shot. Once defenders press up on him he has a good first step that allows to attack the rim and he's a really athletic finisher. Keyshawn is also such a well-rounded young man. He has great leadership skills, he was voted a team captain three straight years. Not only does he excel on the basketball court but he also is an outstanding student who will graduate with a 4.0 GPA from high school! We cannot wait to have Keyshawn in the Purple and Gold this winter!"

Robert Banks

COACH GIBSON ON ROBERT: "Robert is one of the toughest high school basketball players I've seen over the past five years. He will do whatever is needed to be done to win the game. Our fans will love his nonstop motor, how he dives on the floor and fights for every rebound. Robert can also really stretch the floor with his 3pt. shot. He played for one of the absolute best high school coaches in the country in David Peavy who prepares his players to be successful at the college level. Robert is a winner who already wow one state championship and was in the final four this year when the playoffs stopped in Texas. We are thrilled that Robert is joining our family at Western New Mexico!"

COACH GIBSON ON JOZIAH: "Joziah is a young man who has always been told he can't do something and then he goes out and proves everybody wrong. He has a chip on his shoulder and I love that about him! He has goals and aspirations and he won't be stopped until he achieves them. He was a tremendous high school player here in the state of New Mexico being the Gatorade Player of the Year this season. He is also a winner! Joziah has back to back state championships in 2018 and 2019. He also led his team to two other final four appearances. Joziah just like Keyshawn is a stud in the classroom. He too will graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA. We are so excited that Joziah has decided to stay in state and play these next four years at Western New Mexico."
