We would like to thank the Town of Silver City for sponsoring the 33rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, and the following volunteers and sponsors who played key roles in the success of the parade and downtown holiday decorating: Town of Silver City Police Department, Town of Silver City Public Works Department, SkyWest Media, Copies on the Run, Ansel Walters and the Lions Club, Nick Seibel, Raul Turrieta, Patrick Hoskins, Bryan Hyde, La Rea Holladay, Javier Marrufo, Mario Sanchez, Ward A. Vibrant, active town centers are vital to creating and maintaining a vibrant, active community. I visited Silver City toward the end of the covid lockdowns, and even under those circumstances the downtown district was an inviting place where we chose to spend quite a bit of time [and money].
The main reason I found the area inviting was in large part the physical environment itself. As someone who has lived in a series of historic preservation districts and old houses, it was really heartening to see a small town revitalize itself using the extant architecture, not tearing everything apart to manufacture interest and investment. A good coffee shop, an eccentric bookstore, and a nice bar with good food were the icing on the cake.
Silver City has successfully used the 'preservation by neglect' of the buildings as an asset to create someplace lively and engaging without being hyper-planned. Although, in terms of planning, I've never seen as coherent and well thought out a commercial signage guide as that on your website – it should be in every Urban Planning textbook.
With so many artsy tourist towns around the Southwest, what you have is something real and rare: a comfortable place for the community to gather, to work and shop, to just hang out. I’ll be back.

Volunteer at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center!
The Murray Ryan Visitor Center is always looking for volunteers! Our volunteers get to meet interesting people from all over our country and even the world. They also get to know their neighbors and our community better.
Our volunteers often commit to 2 – 4 hours, once or twice a week and the scheduling is very flexible. If volunteering sounds fun to you, come in to talk to Sharla or Renee(Mondays-Friday 9-5).

Brochure Rack Program
Want to get information out about your program or organization? Silver City MainStreet offers the Brochure Rack Program with 25 locations throughout Grant county. The racks are regularly stocked with your information. Renee is managing the program and you can have your rack card promoted for the entire year or just a month. It's only $30 per month to participate!
