Somewhere in New Mexico Before the End of Time is an independent film to be shown for the first time in New Mexico on Monday, May 6, 6:30 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan St., Silver City. The suggested donation is $6/adults and $2/students, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.  Refreshments will be served.

The film’s primary subject, Dr. Guy McPherson, is a resident of Grant County. Since leaving his tenured professor position at the University of Arizona in Tucson, he and a few others have built an off-the-grid, permaculture homestead showcased in the film.  He describes what led to his major lifestyle change, including global climate change; peak oil and the decline of energy resources; and the accompanying destruction of the Earth. He speaks of the necessity of dismantling the industrial economy and returning to a “tribal” community lifestyle. Other people who are activists and community builders/members also living in Grant County are interviewed in the film.

The film was directed by Mike Sosebee, an independent filmmaker from Oceanside, California. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife Carmen. He lived on McPherson’s community homestead for two weeks. Proceeds from the film showing will help cover Sosebee’s travel expenses.
McPherson and Sosebee will be available after the film to answer questions. McPherson
will be signing and selling copies of his memoir, “Walking Away from Empire.”
