The Town was awarded a $200,000 Brownfields Cleanup Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency in October of last year for cleanup of lead, asbestos, and bat guano in the Silver City Waterworks building. The grant would also cover stabilization of the collapsing pump room floor to provide access to that area, and remediation of doors and windows.

As part of the grant requirements, an "Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives" (ABCA) must be presented to the public for comment. Alternatives range from "no action" to total removal of hazardous materials. The ABCA may be viewed at the Town's website, www.townofsilvercity.org, and comments may be emailed to the Town's Assistant Engineer Charles Melaney at tsccfm@qwestoffice.net. A presentation on the Waterworks Project and the EPA grant will be held during the Town's regular council meeting on March 25 at 6 PM. For more information, please call 534-6368.

Comments will be accepted until April 11.
