Metal Art by Mark Bowen

The Grant County Art Guild has a delightful mix of 41 local artists and fine crafters, many showing their work at the guild's Pinos Altos Gallery. The featured artists this weekend are a great example of that diversity in art and handcrafted items.

On Friday, September 19, Mary Soule' will be the featured artist at the gallery. She has a creative display of knitted and fabric items, ceramics and other crafts. Mary is a long-time historian of the guild. She has in depth knowledge about the gallery's unique location in the historic Hearst Church and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

On Saturday, September 20, Mark and Jane Bowen will be the featured artists. Mark is well-known in the area for his indoor and outdoor metal art sculptures. From very large to very small, they are an enticing interpretation of Southwestern art. Jane Bowen is a very versatile artist with an affordable line of jewelry as well as cozy knit shawls, perfect for gifting or keeping.

Stacy Schwarz will be the featured artist on Sunday, September 21. Stacy creates ceramics with a purpose and most with the magic of whimsical animals that will make you smile. Her "Tail-Chasing Dragon" won the hearts of the judges and the Best of Show award in crafts at our opening show of the season.

The Pinos Altos Art Gallery is located at 14 Golden Avenue in the historic Hearst Church. If you come for the art, viewing the beautiful old building, constructed in 1898, is a bonus. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October 5. There is never an entry fee and both browsers and buyers are welcome.
