PNM 2015 Energy Efficiency Programs Submitted to NMPRC

(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) —PNM is proposing a plan that would increase savings opportunities for customers looking to reduce their energy bills. The company is asking the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission for approval to expand its successful home lighting discount program to provide low-energy LED bulbs to customers who live in multi-family homes. The proposal would also enhance several other energy-savings programs.

"PNM continues to invest in new and innovative energy efficiency programs to help our customers lower their electric bills," said Steve Bean, manager, PNM Energy Efficiency. "We are excited about the opportunity to extend these savings opportunities to a larger group of customers."

Included in the PNM proposal:
· Adding LED bulbs to the Home Lighting Discount Program
· A new program for PNM customers in multi-family complexes
· More options for higher efficiency air-conditioning rebates
· Expansion of the PNM QuickSaver program to reach more businesses
· Extension of the PNM Home Works student education and kit program to include more schools, specifically targeting rural areas

The state's Efficient Use of Energy Act requires PNM to offer cost-effective energy efficiency and load management programs with savings that equal 8 percent of the utility's 2005 retail sales by 2020. PNM is on track to meet or exceed that goal. The new programs could save an estimated 80 million kilowatt-hours a year, which is enough to power 11,111 average homes.

If approved, PNM's plan would increase the investment in energy-saving programs to almost $26 million annually. The N.M. Public Regulation Commission must give its approval for the new programs before they can be offered. Hearings are expected in early 2015.

Since 2007, PNM residential and business customers have saved more than 1 billion kilowatt hours, enough energy to serve more than 146,000 homes. More than $34 million has been paid in customer rebates and programs have saved an estimated 527,032 metric tons of CO2 and 375.8 million gallons of water.
