RESERVE, N.M.; Nov. 25, 2014 – Fire managers are preparing to conduct the Eckleberger Prescribed Fire on the Reserve Ranger District beginning Dec. 1, conditions permitting. The project is approximately 14 miles southeast of Reserve, one mile east of Rainy Mesa Ranch. This 3,000-acre burn will complete the final unit within the Eckleberger project area.

Smoke will be noticeable in the surrounding area during days of ignitions and may linger for a few more days as fuels within the perimeter continue to smolder. The objectives of these burns are to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health.
Fire specialists follow a burn plan that outlines the "prescription" or environmental conditions such as temperature, wind, fuel moisture, ventilation, and humidity that need to be met before the project begins. For more information, please call the Reserve Ranger District at 575-533-6232.
