The Grant County 4-H Year is once again in its annual enrollment period.  Oct. 1, 2014, through Sept. 30, 2015, is the enrollment period for the Fiscal Year 2015. Every 4-H member and 4-H volunteers must re-enroll each year.

If 4-H youths enroll in animal projects to show in fair competitions and/or shooting sports (rifle, shotgun or archery), the enrollment deadline is Dec. 19, 2014.   For shooting sports, this is crucial, because youth enrolled in these competitive projects will begin practices and will need to attend safety meetings prior to these practices.  The livestock deadline is required for the county office to order project books and allow cooperation with the NM Livestock Board’s “tag in” deadlines for both county and state fair.

Any youth may enroll in the 4-H program at any time; they just will not be able to add the above projects for competition after Dec. 19 for this year.

The 4-H council is also offering its annual posole mixes for gift giving.  Blue corn and white corn mixes are available at the local office, 2610 N. Silver St., for the same $10 donation to support the 4-H council efforts with project books and awards.  These popular mixes are the perfect gift for mailing to loved ones who need a “chile fix” and  live out of state, as well as for those on your list who don’t want a gift you have to dust, feed, or take care of.
