The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Chapter 8003 of Silver City announces scholarship applications. Qualified high school students entering college in the fall of 2015 and students already in college are invited to apply. Scholarship applications can be found on the LULAC website, www.LNESC.org , or www.LULAC.org and from guidance counselors in area high schools. Applications may also be obtained at the LULAC office in Silver City, 100 Alice St., on Wednesdays from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Deadline for submission is March 31, 2015. Scholarship awards will be announced by late April following the selection process and will be awarded at a dinner hosted by LULAC and Western New Mexico University in July 2015.

Funds for these scholarships are obtained from food sales and bingo games sponsored throughout the year by LULAC and from matching funds obtained from LULAC's national offices. At the same time, LULAC is inviting Grant County businesses and organizations to donate scholarship funds for these deserving future leaders. Donations may be applied toward the general fund or named scholarships may be specifically awarded by the business or individual. Last year LULAC awarded 16 scholarships to Grant County students. For more information on contributing scholarship funds, contact the Rev. Henry J Hoffman at 575-313-5797, or Mr. Fred Baca at 575-654-6844.

The mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health, and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.
