SILVER CITY, N.M.; April 24, 2015 - The Iron Creek Campground on the Silver City Ranger District has been added to the list of open campgrounds for the Gila National Forest.

This campground is east of Silver City, NM off Highway 152 near Emory Pass Vista. The Railroad Canyon Trailhead is located about one - half mile west of the campground. Trails from this location lead into the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. This area also offers good woodland birding.

Lower Gallinas Campground remain s closed due to flood damage sus tained during the 2014 monsoons. District personnel are working to correct unsafe conditions and repair damages to open the campground in the near future.

Springtime weather can be unpredictable. Forest visitors are advised to take a few minutes to evaluate weather, road, and campground conditions carefully before selecting a campsite. Remember to look up for dead or loose branches before choosing a campsite on the ground.
