The National Weather Service will be presenting two Skywarn Spotter classes in Grant County next month. Both classes will run from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and be held at the Gila Regional EMS Training Room on the 32nd Street By-Pass in Silver City. Parking is available in the hospital parking lot next door.

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - Basic Skywarn Spotter (Prerequisite: None)

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 - Advanced Skywarn Spotter (Prerequisite: Basic Skywarn Spotter)

Skywarn storm spotters are part of the ranks of citizens who form the Nation's first line of defense against severe weather. NWS encourages anyone with an interest in public service and access to communication, such HAM radio, to join the Skywarn program. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.

Both classes are free and open to the public. Existing Skywarn Spotters are also welcomed to take the classes as a refresher. The classes are being hosted by the Grant County ARES-Skywarn Team.
