Silver City, New Mexico, October 1, 2015: The Mimbres Health Fair will offer dozens of free screenings, including flu shots and private well water testing, to help keep residents healthy on Saturday (October 10, 2015) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Lorenzo Elementary School Cafeteria on Highway 35. The Health Fair is held in conjunction with the Mimbres Harvest Festival.

Some of the health screenings available at the fair include blood glucose, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry provided by students from the Western Mexico University School of Nursing. Hidalgo Medical Services will offer mental health screenings in addition to oral and dental screenings.

For the third year in a row, Walgreens will offer free flu shots according to Store Manager, Derek Ratcliff. "Walgreens wants to keep offering this great service and give back to our community."

Ratcliff added, "Already, this season, there are confirmed flu cases diagnosed in Silver City."

The New Mexico Department of Health and Environmental Department will offer free private well water testing. The test includes electrical conductivity, sulfate pH, nitrate fluoride, arsenic, iron and manganese.

Environmental Scientist, Kathryne Hayden said, "Water is fundamental to life. The Environment Department is pleased to offer this important service to residents of the Mimbres Valley."

Director of Gila Regional's Community Health Partnerships, Chris DeBolt said, "As a Mimbres Valley resident on a private well, as most of us are, it's a wonderful service to make sure our local water supply is safe."

Participants for water testing are requested to bring at least a liter of water in a container, cover with a clean lid to allow for accurate testing, then label water bottle with name, address and phone number so test results can be mailed later.
