Two back-to-back New Mexico certified Alcohol Server Training classes will be provided in Silver City on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 22 and 23, by Border Area Mental Health Services.

Class times will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Suite 11 at Hudson Plaza, 315 S. Hudson St.

"The classes are for all managers and employees who sell or serve alcoholic beverages, whether in a lounge setting, licensed beer and wine restaurants, package sales outlets, and even wineries," explained Steve May, a program specialist with BAMHS and a certified alcohol server training instructor. "Basically, anyone who controls or initiates the sale or service of alcoholic beverages must be certified every three years by the state's Alcohol and Gaming Division," he added.

The training, which costs $35 per person, is open to individuals who are seeking first-time certification and for others who need to become recertified. May said BAMHS accepts only cash, money orders, cashier's checks or business checks from people wanting to attend the class. He encouraged individuals to bring snacks or a sack lunch since the class continues through the lunch hour.

"We always appreciate folks calling ahead to preregister for the class, but walk-ins are always welcome as long as seating is available," May said.
