The little mining community of Hurley is the place to visit on December 17th! Downtown will be bustling with activity that will surely fill one with the holiday spirit.

Santa, escorted by the Hurley Fire and Police Departments, will visit with the children from 11 am to 2 pm at 100 Cortez Ave. Be sure the little ones bring their list for Santa! This jolly fella is always a favorite for young and old alike.

The Snak Bar will be open from 11 am to 5 pm that day. The elves will be adding posole to their regular menu and will be open until the hay ride departs that evening.

The annual Hurley Pride hay ride will depart from The Old Hurley Store at 99 Cortez at 5:30 pm. The public can stay warm and enjoy the train displays and hot chocolate prior to the hay ride.

The hay ride will begin at 5:30 pm and will go up and down every street in Hurley. Two hay wagons will be available for those wanting to ride but the public is encouraged, and invited, to follow along in their vehicles. While participants enjoy seeing all the decorations the mystery judges will be hard at work judging for first place of $100, second place of $75, third place of $50, and best decorated fence for $25. Most of the homes are set towards the back of the property so the Pride thought it a good idea to award the best decorated fence as it shows first from the street. There's been some pretty clever ideas in the past and it's always fun to see what folks come up with. The best decorated street will be acknowledged with a dated sign placed at their intersection with Diaz Avenue.

This year the 'tree' at the corner of Cortez and Diaz has been decorated with blue lights to honor Law Enforcement. The lights on the live tree at that intersection will come on on December 10 during the Luminaria event. This is the first time the Pride is offering Luminarias. Between 3 and 5:30 pm the public can pick up their luminarias at $5 each and either take them home or place them under the trees.

Every year the Hurley Pride tries to do something a little different during the holidays and every year more residents join in the effort. It's such a great community and wonderful place to live. The holidays remind many of the 'old days' and that is a good thing. It's amazing, and appreciated, to see how many people and businesses outside of the community volunteer to make this happen.
