Cherish the Ladies RSCherish the LadiesOn Sunday, April 30, at 3:00 p.m. Grant County Community Concert Association presents a dynamic group that is sure to fascinate and entertain. Cherish the Ladies is a Grammy-nominated, Irish-American band formed in New York City in 1985. Their tremendous popularity celebrates the rise of extraordinary women in what had been a male-dominated Irish music scene. The concert will be held at the W.N.M.U. Fine Arts Theater. This concert project is supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Under the leadership of the dynamic and irrepressible flute and penny whistle champion Joanie Madden, these ladies create a show that includes a spectacular blend of virtuoso instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements, and stunning step dancing. Their continued success as one of the top Celtic groups in the world is due to the ensemble's ability to take the best of Irish traditional music and dance and put it forth in an immensely entertaining show.

The group has toured the world, played the White House and the Olympics, and recorded fifteen outstanding albums. Their latest album, An Irish Homecoming was videotaped for an Emmy winning Public Television Special that aired across America. The Boston Globe says, "It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn't enjoy what they do." The New York Times calls their music "passionate, tender and rambunctious." They have won recognition as the BBC's Best Musical Group of the Year and were named Top North American Celtic Group. They even have a street named after them in the Bronx!

For non-GCCCA subscribers, tickets to the Cherish the Ladies concert are $20 for adults and $5 for students to age 17 not accompanied by an adult ticket holder. Students coming with an adult ticket holder are admitted free of charge.
