Who are the Grant County Prospectors?

Grant County Day at the Roundhouse will be held Wednesday, January 24.

Attendees include community members representing local governments, education, health care, non-profits, business and interested residents of Grant County. Our average attendance is around 50-75 people that make the 6-hour drive to Santa Fe from Grant County.

In the morning we are scheduled to have our local Legislators, Senator Howie Morales, Representatives Rudy Martinez, Rebecca Dow and Candi Sweetser, talk about the issues they see coming in this year’s 30-day legislative session that might impact Grant County. We will then have invited leaders of both the Senate and House do the same.

Next, everyone from Grant County that is in attendance will go to the opening ceremonies of both houses. We have local residents who give the opening prayer, sing the national anthem, present the color guard, and even a local group of line dancers do a couple of dances. The Legislators love the Silver Stompers.

In the afternoon we have meetings with the Governor and Lt. Governor scheduled for 12:30. At 1:15 we start meeting with various Cabinet Secretaries about Grant County priorities. This year we are meeting with Economic Development, NM Taxation and Revenue, Department of Health, Higher Education and Children Youth and Families.

The day ends with the Grant County Prospectors Legislative Reception. The entire membership of the NM House and NM Senate are invited, the Governor and Lt. Governor, Cabinet Secretaries, Department heads, as well as other Legislative leaders. The Reception is held in the North Ballroom at the La Fonda Hotel and it is always a full room.

This event allows Grant County residents the opportunity to thank and honor those that we have met with during the day, as well as those who work with us throughout the year to make Grant County an excellent place to live and work!
