Mimbres, NM — The Wilderness District Ranger is pleased to announce that the Lincoln Canyon Timber Sale will be implemented beginning April 16. The sale location is T15S R12W, NE of Sec 14 & SE of Sec11 and 25 acres will be thinned. The boundary of the unit is painted with orange tracer paint and the trees to be cut are marked with blue tracer paint. Approximately 64 CCF of sawlog timber will be removed by the purchaser. The project is expected to be completed by December 13, 2018.

This project meets the objectives of the Gila National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan by providing timber to maintain and create jobs in the local communities and managing for diverse habitats. It also implements part of the Upper Mimbres Decision and will decrease overstocked stands, improve overall health of the stands, and improve wildlife habitat. Resource protection measures and Best Management Practices will be adhered to and implemented as required by the Upper Mimbres Decision Notice and the Gila National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan.

District Ranger Rachelle Huddleston-Lorton stated "it is exciting to offer this small sale to support both economic and resource objectives on the Wilderness Ranger District". The public is asked to use caution in the area and along Highway 35 as there will be heavy equipment in use and increased traffic out on the highway. If you would like more information about this project please call the Wilderness District Ranger at 575-536-2250.
