Glenwood, NM — The Glenwood Ranger District, Gila National Forest announces that the Cosmic Campground International Dark Sky Sanctuary (CCIDSS) will be temporarily closed from May 6 at 1:00 p.m. to May 11 at 1:00 p.m. for extensive improvements.
The CCIDSS is the first International Dark Sky Sanctuary in North America and the first in New Mexico. This campground will have the following improvements during the week of the closure:
- The road will have aggregate surfacing applied
- Boulders will be placed to create a perimeter around the campground, establish the interior of the campground which will create six RV sites
- Area will be created for the installation of two information kiosks
- Fencing will be placed around the perimeter of the campground
