SILVER CITY, NM – On Saturday June 30, The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability (formerly The Volunteer Center), located at 501 East 13th Street in Silver City, is hosting "An Uncommonly Good Evening." The event, which will help raise money for the center's food pantry, starts at 6 p.m. and includes beer from Little Toad Creek Brewery; tasty, chef-created hors d'oeuvres; great music; dancing; and a silent auction.

According to data from Feeding America, a nationwide non-profit that deals with food security, at least 24.9% of children in Grant county are experiencing food insecurity. The Commons' food pantry has been helping serve the needs of these, and other vulnerable county residents since 2009. "Our food pantry helps feed over 500 hungry households per month and the numbers are rising. Without the help and support of our community, we couldn't possibly keep up with it," says Kristin Lundgren, Garden and Education Coordinator at The Commons.

"An Uncommonly Good Evening" is a great way to help The Commons in funding their mission and have an uncommonly good Saturday night at the same time. Providing entertainment will be a local musical trio, The Three Points, who play their own brand of toe tapping, thought-provoking Americana. The silent auction will include an eclectic assortment of treasures such as an upright piano, a trek road bicycle, a hand-crafted kitchen knife, a Yoga party, and more.

Anyone interested in helping their community and having a great time while doing it can buy tickets to "An Uncommonly Good Evening" at Yada Yada Yarn or The Jumping Cactus, in downtown Silver City. Tickets can also be purchased at The Commons. The price is $25 per person. For any questions or if you are interested in donating something uncommonly cool to the silent auction, email info@tvcgrantcounty.org.
