Mimbres, NM, November 7, 2018—For Immediate Release. The Gila National Forest, Wilderness Ranger District will be implementing seasonal closures. Beginning November 7, winter operations will begin on the following recreation sites:

Dispersed sites along Forest Road 150Forks Campground, 40 miles north of Silver City on the east side of NM Hwy 15, 5 miles south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National MonumentGrapevine Campground, 40 miles north of Silver City on the east side of NM Hwy 15Sapillo Group Area Campground, 10 miles north of Wilderness Ranger District, on NM Hwy 35, in Mimbres Upper and Lower Scorpion Campgrounds, located on NM Hwy 15, ¼ mile from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument

While the public is encouraged to continue to enjoy these sites, weather permitting, services will be limited during the winter months. The trash service customarily provided will also not be available during the winter season. 

Upper End Campground will remain open throughout the winter. Mesa Campground will close Tuesday, December 4, 2018 and reopen Friday, March 1, 2019. 

With limited services we are asking visitors to do their part to pack in/pack out trash and help us keep the campgrounds clean. Full services are expected to resume in April. The trash service customarily provided will be limited during the winter season. Visitors should also be mindful of hazards that can be present during the colder months, such as sudden weather and temperature changes and falling trees due to windy and/or snowy conditions.
