On Thursday, February 21, the Grant County Democratic Party will host the first of its “Third Thursday” public forums for 2019, “A New Day in Court: Legal Changes Under the New Administration.”

Discussing the issues currently under debate in Santa Fe will be a highly qualified panel, including Timothy Aldrich, Esq., Professor of Criminal Justice, WNMU, Thomas F. Stewart, Judge, Sixth Judicial District Court and Spenser Baca, Esq., Associate Attorney at Foy and Associates. The moderator will be Siah Correa Hemphill, M. A., Special Education Director, Aldo Leopold Charter School.

According to Frances Vasquez, Chair of the Grant County Democratic Party, “With a new administration in Santa Fe, new laws will be passed, old laws will be repealed and some laws will be reinterpreted. This is the time to decide what is working and what is not. Is our judicial system truly serving the public?  Have New Mexico courts contributed to mass incarceration? How should we judge the judging done by the judges? I certainly don’t have all the answers, but everyone who attends our lively Forum on Thursday should come away with a better understanding of how things work, and why.”

As usual, the forum will be co-sponsored by WNMU’s Miller Library, MEChA de WMNU, and the Grant County Democratic Party.

Refreshments will be served following the Forum; everyone is invited.
