A recent transplant to Silver City since January of this year, Joel has focused his attention on the New Mexico landscape. When he says landscape, he refers to the small and intrinsic details that make up our surroundings. He has been creating small colored pencil drawings, which serve as a major contrast to the large wire installations that he has been creating for 20 years. He is also exhibiting wire drawings, silver wire, and rust based as a contrast to the colored pencil. His background was in illustration and design, as well as 15 years as a professor at John Brown University.

Joel recently had the honor of exhibiting his wire painting installation, “Clotheslines,” at the Light Art Space Gallery, also in Silver City.

On your visit to Grant County Art Guild Gallery, check out Joel’s lovely wire paintings of geese, his wire and paper mini sculptures reminiscent of the Sputnik era, and his beautiful colored pencil drawings on black of closeups of the mesmerizing textures of agave plants. The agave designs are available as matted prints, large greeting cards, as well as printed on pillows.

Located at 316 N. Bullard in historic downtown Silver City, the Art Guild Gallery represents the fine art and fine crafts of 35 local artists and artisans who create original paintings, photography, colored pencil, prints, greeting cards, ceramics, clayworks, fiber arts, journal binding, mosaics, jewelry, metalworks and wireart, home décor, and more.

Grant County Art Guild Gallery is open every day except holidays. Regular hours:  Mon. through Sat. – 10:00-5:00, Sunday – 12:00-4:00. The Gallery is in the purple Hester House building at the corner of N. Bullard and Market.
