Silver City, NM (October, 4, 2019) — The anticipation is building for National 4-H Week, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will be celebrating everything 4-H. Grant County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people, and will highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them.

The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Inspire Kids to Do, which highlights how 4-H encourages kids to take part in hands-on learning experiences in areas such as health, science, agriculture and civic engagement. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that kids in every county and parish in the country from urban neighbourhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.

Grant County 4-H will be celebrating National 4-H Week with several activities. Monday, October 7- there will be a 4-H Record Book Workshop from 4-5:30pm @ the Grant County Extension office. Tuesday, October 8 is spirit day. Show your 4-H spirit by wearing green and white or something with the 4-H clover on it, to work, school or around town. Thursday, October 10 is “Throwback Thursday.” 4-H members and families are encouraged to post pictures to social media of family members and friends when they were in 4-H. The six 4-H clubs in the community will be competing against each other in an all week long community scavenger hunt. Last but not least, clubs will also be competing to see which club can donate the most canned goods for the county community service project. The canned good drive will last all week and the results will be revealed on the winning club the following Monday. The canned goods will be donated to a local nonprofit organization aimed at helping to feed those in need.

“4-H is one of the most important and valuable youth organizations that our community has to offer that will ultimately prepare youth for the future with life skills, leadership skills and responsibility” said Jessica Swapp, Grant County 4-H Agent.

In Grant County, more than 198 4-H youth and 54 volunteers from the community are involved in 4-H.
