WILL, the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning, is proud to present the Sonnie Sussillo Memorial Seminar for spring featuring Kyle Grambley, the Recreation Program Manager for the Gila National Forest. The focus of her presentation will be on the Gila Wilderness.

k.grambley photoWith the Gila Wilderness centennial around the corner, it is essential for our community to come together and celebrate the world's first designated wilderness -which happens to be in our backyard. Aldo Leopold's vision a century ago has led to the protection of 803 wilderness areas, totaling 111,368,221 acres in the United States.

Federally designated wilderness is managed by multiple agencies to maintain and enhance wilderness character. Grambley’s presentation will explore what defines designated wilderness, how our understanding or vision of wilderness areas has evolved in the last century, special management considerations when working in these areas, and the challenges of wilderness management in the 21st century.

Grambley has a degree from Colorado State University in Natural Resource Management and has worked managing public lands with the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management across the western United States, and in Washington, D.C.

She has extensive experience working on developed and dispersed recreation, trails, partnership, with volunteers, special uses, and with wilderness management. Grambley states, “Being new to the area I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing my passion for Wilderness”.

Please join WILL for this free and open to the public presentation Wednesday, April 12 from noon to 1pm at the WNMU Besse-Forward Global Resource Center, ABC Room on the corner of 12th and Kentucky St in Silver City.
