April 23, at 10 am, 3845 North Swan Street –  “Through the Lens of Arturo Flores”

Javier Marrufo, Curator of the Silver City Museum, will talk about an exhibit which is currently on display at the Museum. It features Arturo Flores, a self-taught photographer who documented the Empire Zinc Mine Strike in Hanover, New Mexico.

Flores's photographs, captured in black and white, show the events from the perspective of an active participant rather than an outside observer. These photos are essential in understanding the conditions surrounding the Empire Zinc Mine Strike, a pivotal event in Grant County history. Marrufo will touch on the history of that strike, the importance of documenting your own personal experience, and the role of individual perspectives in history.

Javier Marrufo is the Curator of the Silver City Museum. A native of Silver City, New Mexico, he received a BA in History from Western New Mexico University in 2016, and will be completing his MA in History from the same institution in the fall of 2023.

There are speakers on the patio if you wish to listen to the service outside.
