Forest Supervisor seeks public engagement and communication

SILVER CITY, NM, May 5, 2023 – The Gila National Forest is hosting “Coffee with Camille” in Quemado, New Mexico on Thursday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Given the large turnout at past events and the small space available in the Quemado District Office, the event will take place at the Quemado Schools cafeteria.

“The Gila National Forest and its constituent communities are interdependent. The activities of the forest affect the lives, the economies, and the well-being of residents, while the activities of people affect the well-being of the forest,” said Camille Howes, Gila National Forest Supervisor. “It is critical that we come together and listen to each other to understand the issues and opportunities that lie before us. Public engagement over coffee is only a starting point to reach for collaborative, mutually beneficial solutions to the problems we all face together.”

“Coffee with Camille” is an open forum opportunity to meet and engage with the Gila National Forest Supervisor, Camille Howes, and other forest staff, and for members of the public to discuss topics of their interest and concern. The forest will continue to host these events on a recurring basis, with the location and frequency to be determined by the level of public interest, staff scheduling, and current events.

Please join us from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday, June 1 at the Quemado Schools cafeteria, Highway 60, Quemado, New Mexico. Please contact Maribeth Pecotte at 575-388-8211 or by email at Maribeth.Pecotte@usda.gov for more information.
