June 4 at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street - "UUA Article II Revision:  Calling Us to Action”

Carlos Price, Board President of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, will discuss the prospective changes to Article II of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s by-laws, which was last amended in 1985. 

“Article II is an essential part of the UUA’s by-laws in that it lays out important statements that define what UU is and what its member congregations hold as values.  It addresses the purpose of the Association, sources of inspiration for our beliefs, the Seven Principles, and our views toward tolerance and acceptance.  The new version is intended to take us beyond verbal acceptance and call us to action, to covenant together to do something in the world to act on our beliefs and values,” Price said.

He added, “After months of meetings with Unitarian Universalists from all over the country, the Article II Study Commission released their report and is accepting comments.  At the 2023 General Assembly the delegates will vote on the final report." 

"If approved by a majority of the delegates, the study commission will have time to clear up any issues brought to them by the General Assembly and present a final version of Article II to the 2024 General Assembly.  A vote of two thirds of the delegates will be required to formally adopt the new version of Article II.”

Carlos Price moved to Silver City in the fall of 2021 from Bayou Vista, Galveston County, Texas. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Memphis. He retired from the University of Houston—Clear Lake in August 2014, as a Clinical Associate Professor of educational leadership. Prior to living in Texas, he was a teacher in Mississippi and an administrator in Arkansas public schools. His last position in Arkansas was as superintendent of schools for the Hope School District.

Throughout his career, Price was also active in community affairs and provided leadership on numerous non-profit boards. He even ventured into politics once, serving for four years as an alderman on the Bayou Vista, TX, Board of Aldermen.

Price has been active in both the UU Fellowships of Galveston County and Silver City. He is currently Board Chair for the Silver City UU Fellowship.
