MittelstadtsA Special Concert by Susan and Burt Mittelstadt

Please join us on Friday, October 6 for a poignant evening of music - songs of social justice and protest - performed by Burt and Susan Mittelstadt and hosted by the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City.

Over the ages, music has moved the mountains of human injustice and suffering, from civil rights to women’s rights to Black Lives Matter to labor movements and anti-war protests, and so much more. As Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, Eli Wiesel once said, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” Music has always been a means to that end.

Burt and Susan Mittelstadt are a Silver City duo that play music from across genres and eras. In the tradition of folk musicians through the ages, if they like it, they’ll give it a go. Burt is on guitar and Susan plays fiddle and mandolin. They both sing lead and harmony and will be joined by Joann Hall on fiddle and Jefferson Dalby on keyboard.

After twelve years on the road where they played marches and fundraisers from Montana to Mexico the duo settled down in Silver City. While they don’t take themselves too seriously, they are committed to the tradition of doing good through the music they openly perform. In their relatively short time here, the Mittelstadts have become an integral part of the Silver City music scene.

The music begins at 7 pm - October 6 - at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, located at 3845 N. Swan Street in Silver City. $10 suggested donation (children under 18 free).

All proceeds will support the activities of the UUFSC Social Justice Committee, including support of local food banks, homeless shelters, women’s shelters and health clinics, border and refugee aid, and much more. For more information, please contact Joe Neri at joe12bar@gmail.com.
