BumperStickerNovember 5, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "I Believe in Bumper Stickers: The Importance of Simplicity”

Barbara Gabioud will talk about bumper stickers and their place in modern communications.

“What’s the value of bumper stickers? Are they crass, in your face, finger wagging? Or are they a friendly, nonviolent method of communication? What do your bumper stickers say about you? Are they in line with our Seven Principles? We’ll talk about this and more,” Gabioud said.

Barbara Gabioud is a long-time resident of Grant County, a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City and a connoisseur of bumper stickers.

She was raised as a Unitarian Universalist in Minnesota in the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis. After college in Duluth Minnesota, Gabioud moved to Las Cruces in 1976 for graduate school and has been in New Mexico ever since. She worked for 40 years as a speech-language pathologist primarily in New Mexican public schools with developmentally delayed 3–4-year-olds and children with autism.

She and her husband Ron moved to Silver City in 1994 from Albuquerque and raised their two sons here. She has been a long-time member of WILL, she is currently the registrar, likes to hike, read, travel-camp and play pickleball. Gabioud currently coordinates the UU Fellowship’s Border Justice Project supporting the shelters for asylum seekers in Deming, New Mexico and Palomas, Mexico. She also plays the mountain dulcimer as a part of the Silver City Slickers.
