JeffGoinDecember 17, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street  – “In Love With the World”

Jeff Goin, from the Lotus Center will speak about "In Love with the World" a true story by Yongey Mingyur in which the author, unbeknownst to his students and attendants, leaves the comfort of his Buddhist monastery, under the cover of night, with little more than the clothes on his back, to undertake a "wandering retreat" of indefinite duration. While Yongey Mingyur's story is one of great courage, commitment, and trust, it also provides teachings -- by way of example -- on two of the most powerful, important cornerstones of Buddhist view and practice.

“What are these two "cornerstones"? Find out by joining us on December 17, at 10:00 am, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship,” Goin said.

Jeff Goin is founder and administrator of Lotus Center. He has been teaching and leading non-denominational meditation in Silver City, on a volunteer basis, since 2008. His classes provide practical ideas and methods for improving relationships, overcoming anger, dealing with stress and, in general, establishing and maintaining a peaceful state of mind.

Goin is also co-founder of Single Socks, a non-profit thrift store in Silver City that donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-hunger programs in Grant County, New Mexico. He has been a practicing Mahayana Buddhist since 1999.

Please join us before the service for a drum circle commemorating one of the four solar festivals of the year. We’ll be meeting on the Fellowship patio at 9:30 am for a Winter Solstice  celebration. All are welcome. Bring your drums, rattles, bells, and other percussion instruments. Or else you can use your chanting voice and your dancing moves. No formal program - just let nature take its course! Celebrate Yule with us.

There are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjoy the service outside.

UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:
Masks are now optional, but their use is encouraged. We will continue to serve refreshments on the patio and in the building. Visitors are always welcome.
