Classic Westerns Film Series Announced by Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society

The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society will host a twelve part movie series, commencing on Thursday, January 11th, and continuing each Thursday evening through March 28th.  The series will feature some of the most highly regarded Westerns produced by Hollywood over the last seven decades.  Iconic stars such as John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, James Stewart and Kevin Costner are among the featured actors.  The venue for the showings is the former Santa Clara National Guard Armory, located across the highway from the Village of Santa Clara, six miles east of Silver City via US Highway 180.   Admission is free, concessions are available.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with movies beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The series schedule is:

Jan. 11              Red River, starring John Wayne
Jan. 18                 Winchester 73, starring James Stewart
Jan. 25                 The Searchers, featuring John Wayne
Feb. 1                  The Magnificent Seven, with Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen
Feb. 8                  The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, starring John Wayne and Lee Marvin
Feb. 15                The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly starring Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach

Feb. 22                Little Big Man, featuring Dustin Hoffman
Feb. 29                The Shootist, starring John Wayne in his final role

March 7               Unforgiven, starring Clint Eastwood andGene Hackman

March 14             Tombstone, starring Val Kilmer
March 21             Open Range, starring Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall

March 28             3:10 to Yuma, starring Russell Crowe
